主人公は学生時代に研究室の助教授をしていた女性と恋に落ち、結婚した。彼女には離婚歴があり一人娘もいたが、主人公は少女も受け入れ、幸せな生活を送り始める。しかし、そんな家族を突然の不幸が襲う。休日にドライブを楽しんでいた一家は事故に遭い、妻は即死、娘も片目を失ってしまう。亡き妻への罪悪感と、何よりも妻の大切にしていた娘を汚してしまった事実に、やがて主人公の感情にも常軌を逸した翳りが射していく…。
