苑子は歯科医の真一と結婚した。彼には娘の尚子がいる。真一は家庭教師を探すようにと言い残し、出張に出かけた。苑子は尚子の通う学校を訪れた。ここには彼女の元夫小池が教師をしていた。彼は成り行きで尚子の家庭教師を引き受けるが、女教師真美に反対され、同僚の松平に頼むことにする。尚子の担任である松平は、彼女の家と知らず苑子を訪ねるが…。
